Show Chair Message

Dear Alaskan Malamute Enthusiasts,

The 2006 National & Regional Specialty shows will be here before you know it!

The Southern Area encompasses many states and each has their own gift to offer of Southern Hospitality. Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State! We welcome the AMCA, its members and guests from far and away to beautiful East Tennessee where Knoxville will be our hosting city!!

This year, our show will be in the spacious new Knoxville Convention Center. We will have over 49,000 square feet in the exhibit hall, and 5 meeting rooms for our seminars.

Our host hotel is located next door at the Holiday Inn Select (865-522-2800). When booking your room please use the code AMC to get in the group block’s room rate. You will need to put a deposit to hold your room in the amount of 1 night’s stay ($99 + tax).

This deposit is refundable if you cancel your reservation before October 5, 2006. After October 5, 2006 the group block room rate will close and deposits become nonrefundable. They can be transferred to someone else if you are unable to attend. Please contact me  as soon as possible if you need to transfer your deposit to someone else.

If you have ANY difficulty in procuring your room, please let me know and I’ll help you work it out.

If you are arriving early, please be aware that this is a football weekend (we take our University of Tennessee Football very seriously!!)  The host hotel rooms will be over $200 for the Friday and Saturday before our Specialty week begins. Check in time will be 4 PM (EST) on Sunday November 5, 2006.

We will not be able to get into the Convention Center until 7 AM Sunday morning and we need to let the show committee and superintendent prepare the Convention Center  for our arrival. I would ask that anyone arriving Sunday morning to please give us until 10 AM to prepare the convention center for your arrival.

RV people will be able to park at the Poplar Street lot after the football game is over and the parking lot empties of the attendees on Saturday evening (November 4). Until we know what the game time is, I can’t give an estimate as to when that will be. We hope to have electric power from the utility service, but if not, a generator will be on site.

Everyone may want to plan on attending the Tennessee Valley Kennel Club shows being held at Chilhowee Park. Those dates are November 4 & 5, 2006. The show superintendent is MB-F, Inc. Our travelers with RVs can enjoy full hookups at Chilhowee Park, and the TVKC will be making arrangements with area motels for accommodations. The Show Chair is making special arrangements to accommodate a large entry! There is the possibility of 4 majors in the week for Alaskan Malamutes making it worth the trip here!!

The host hotel and convention center is located next to the beautifully renovated 1982 World’s Fair Park. There are plenty of walking trails throughout the park. Many of the trails connect to Knoxville Greenways. There are also emergency phones along these paths for safety.  Located within an hour’s drive is the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, or Big South Fork Recreational Area.

On behalf of the 2006 National Show Committee, The Southern Area members, Tina Sanderford, my co-chair, and I, we welcome you to Knoxville, Tennessee in November 2006.

Hope to see ya’ll soon!!!
