SR-A-1. The breed club shall be incorporated. (Actually recorded on 25 October 1954, New Hampshire - signers of incorporation papers were: Natalie and Arthur Hodgen, Eva. B. Seeley, Charles B. Sullivan, Paul A. Pelletier, Freeman Frost.)
SR-A-2. The name of the breed club shall be changed from AMC to AMCA, Inc.
SR-A-3. The emblem lettered Z shall be adopted as official emblem of AMCA, shape round, lettering rugged.
SR-A-4. The Treasurer shall solicit bids for the Newsletter in odd-numbered years. (Jan90)
SR-A-5. All charter or founding AMCA members who were also members-in-good-standing as of January '78, and all members who have maintained continuous good standing for 30 years, shall be deemed Life Members, with waiver of basic dues. (Jun 92)
SR-A-6. Articles written by AMCA members for publication in magazines available to the public (i.e., Dogworld, AKC Gazette) shall not include internal AMCA controversy. Such conduct shall be considered prejudicial to the good of the Club. (Oct 99)
SR-A-7. The Treasurer shall obtain an external review of the Club accounts in even-numbered years. (Aug99)
SR-A-8. Upon advice of counsel, AMCA shall not become affiliated with the independently incorporated Alaskan Malamute Assistance League (AMAL) nor permit AMAL to use the AMCA logo. (Nov00)
SR-A-9. It is requested that Annual Meeting motions be submitted in advance, from 30 days to 2 days prior to convening the meeting. These motions will be on a first come basis and shall be sent/handed to the Recording Sec. All motions made from the floor will follow the written submissions. (Jun08)
SR-A-10. That the Alaskan Malamute Club of America Illustrated Standard be allowed for use in the official Publications of other National Malamute clubs with the following conditions:
1) The articles are sent to the Judges Education Committee Chair or Illustrated Standard Committee Chair for prior approval.
2) The language and photos of the Illustrated Standard are not taken out of context but are used verbatim in the articles.
3) Price and mailing address for the AMCA Illustrated Standard will appear in foreign club Newsletter. (June09)
EditB-BOARD POLICIES
SR-B-1. The Board shall appoint a Club member who is not involved in breeding and/or showing of Alaskan Malamutes to handle the Dogworld advertisement correspondence. (Jan80)
SR-B-2. The Corresponding Secretary shall poll the membership annually for volunteers to staff anticipated positions to be filled by Board appointment during the ensuing year. Board appointments shall be to current members only, and no appointment shall be held for someone who is not currently a member. (Jan 85)
SR-B-3. The Treasurer shall provide the membership at Annual Meetings with a budget for the following year, being as detailed as possible. (Jan85).
SR-B-4. When a change in AKC Delegate is proposed the Board shall submit the name of the new delegate for membership ratification. A simple majority of the total votes cast shall be necessary for approval. (Jun87)
SR-B-5. The President shall be notified before any telephone vote. The Recording Secretary shall poll the entire Board (regardless of vote total), record each vote, and report the tally in the next Board letter. (Apr 88)
SR-B-6. The Board shall observe the following procedures for conference calls:
(a) At least 3 Board members must agree with the request for a conference call.
(b) The member requesting the call shall send a position paper to rest of the Board not later than 7 days prior to the proposed call date. This paper shall, if possible, include any motions to be presented for vote during the call.
(c) If the subject of the call concerns an AMCA committee or member, then the Chairperson or individual in question shall be advised of the nature of the proposed call, and shall be allowed to present a position paper to the ::Board, postmarked not later than 7 days prior to the proposed call date. SR-B-7. AMCA will provide funds for materials pertinent to proposed legislation, and to reimburse a portion of the reasonable expenses, on a case-by-case basis, of those individuals authorized by the Board to represent the Club before legislative bodies. (Jun90)
SR-B-8. The Recording Secretary shall keep a file of officer and director job summaries, to be given to new Board members when elected. (Jun 92)
SR-B-9. The Board shall approve reprinting costs and quantities for all AMCA publications (booklets, brochures, PRJs, Newsletter, etc.). The archivist is authorized to maintain a limited stock of all current Malamute studbooks, subject to approval of his expenses by the Treasurer. (Jun 92)
SR-B-10. AMCA shall pay for First Class Newsletter mailing to Board members and Area Reporters. (Sep01)
SR-B-11. Any Board member or officer who fails to respond to written or electronic (email) Board communication for 1 month shall be requested to vacate his or her office. Exception shall be made for extended illness or vacation, overseas duty at employer's request, or military duty. Absence shall not exceed 3 months. Vacancy shall be filled according to Article II, Section 3 of the AMCA by-laws. (Nov01)
SR-B-12. The Recording Secretary's Newsletter report shall include motion numbers and subject, and the name of the person(s) making each motion. Each Board member may include a one-sentence explanation of his or her vote. A synopsis of pending AMCA business will be included. (Apr02)
SR-B-13. All Board members may discuss pending action of the Board with any Club member, with these exceptions:
1) Pending legal action;
2) Sensitive matters, so deemed by ¾ of the Board.
Comments by a Board member made in private Board correspondence shall be considered confidential and will not be repeated. ::Violations may result in disciplinary action as stated in the bylaws. (Apr 02)
SR-B-14. The Board shall annually review all dues and fees, and shall decide the amounts of those dues and fees for the ensuing year in time to publish the required notice before 31 Dec. (Apr03)
EditC-MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS
SR-C-1. The Board shall follow these procedures in handling complaints concerning applicants:
1. The membership secretary shall send copies, or summaries if too numerous, of any complaints to all members of the ::Board. The Board shall consider any complaints prior to voting, but voting shall not be delayed.
2. Anyone not accepted for membership in the Club shall receive a letter of notification, with refund of the ::application fees. The letter will be sent by Certified Mail, return receipt requested.
3. All applicants who are rejected shall be informed of their rights under AMCA by-laws. (Jan80)
SR-C-2. Each person interested in applying for membership to AMCA shall obtain a request form from the Membership Secretary. Returning this form with signature and fee entitles the requester to a full application. Any person sponsoring an applicant must have been AMCA member-in-good-standing for at least 5 years, and must have known the applicant for at least one year. Applications will also include a statement from a sponsor or veterinarian attesting to the condition of the applicant’s dogs and property. The Membership Secretary will begin a temporary Newsletter subscription for each applicant when his or her application is published. This subscription will cease when the application is either accepted or rejected. (Sep 96)
SR-C-3.The sponsors of any applicant to AMCA shall not be related to the applicant nor be a household partner of the applicant (Nov08)
SR-C-4 Applications for Membership will also include a statement from a sponsor or another member attesting to the conditions of the applicant's dogs and property. If the applicant is unable to find a person who is able to make a home visit, the Board may decide on an individual basis, to allow a veterinarian's signature attesting to the care of the dogs. If the applicant does not own any dogs, the Board may decide to waive this requirement. (Sept09)
EditD-COMMITTEES
SR-D-1. The Board shall attempt to follow the policy that no Board member shall chair any AMCA committee, and that there shall be only one Board member on any AMCA committee. (Jan80)
SR-D-2. Committee Chairs shall fill vacancies and otherwise modify their committees, provided all such action is reported to the Board. The Board may rescind any such action for cause. (Jan80)
SR-D-3. All presentations sanctioned by AMCA, such as Judges Education Seminars, must be coordinated through the appropriate AMCA Committee, and use only approved materials. (Jun97)
SR-D-4. Upon assuming their positions, all Committee Chairs shall submit to the Recording Secretary an inventory of their AMCA materials, and provide an update with their annual report. Upon leaving their position, Chairs shall return all committee materials to AMCA within 30 days. (Nov98)
SR-D-5. All committee Chairs must submit an annual report to the Recording Secretary by December 1 of each year in order to be eligible for reappointment. The Recording Secretary will forward to the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator for publication. (Apr04)
SR-D-6. The Chairperson of any committee being discussed in Board correspondence shall be sent a copy of all correspondence relating to that committee. All sensitive material shall be omitted. (Apr04)
SR-D-7. All committee chairs shall send copies of all rules, forms and other pertinent information to the Recording Secretary. Any subsequent changes to the rules, forms, or other information shall also be submitted to the Recording Secretary. After Board review, each form and/or rule shall be sent to the AMCA Webmaster to be included in the AMCA website. (June04)
SR-D-8. All committee chairs shall submit an annual budget to the Treasurer for approval by Jan. 1. Any expenditure for a single event or item over $500 requires Board approval. Any expenditure must be submitted to the Treasurer prior to the obligation. (Jan05/Jan07)
SR-D-9. That AMCA shall send club archive materials to the AKC Archives. Materials to be used for a historical exhibit at the National could be withheld and kept by the historian. Any standing members that have been given or were appointed to safeguard these archives and artifacts should release them. (Jun07)
EditE-NOMINATING COMMITTEE
SR-E-1. The Treasurer may approve a conference call to allow the Nominating Committee to finalize its report, if such a call is requested by 3 of the committee members. (Apr 88)
SR-E-2. Each member of the outgoing Board shall submit the names of 3 members who have consented to serve. Each member of the new Board will then vote for 7 names. Simple vote count will determine the 5 people to sit on the committee; with the person receiving the most votes designated Chairperson. The new Board will resolve any ties. (May 88)
SR-E-3. A form shall be printed in the October and November Newsletters for members who wish to be considered for an Officer/Director position in the upcoming Annual Election. The designated person must receive the completed form by 1 Jan. (May00)
SR-E-4. Nominating Committee Procedures:
1. Nominating Committee appointed by the AMCA Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting.
2. Not later than 1 Dec- Notification by the Recording Secretary to the Nominating Committee members of their appointment by the Board, along with a list of those positions and incumbents up for re-election. A copy of the Nominating Committee Procedures shall also be included to each member and alternate. A request should be included for Committee members to decline if unable or unwilling to serve on the Nominating Committee. The Committee Chairperson to be notified if there is any change in Committee members.
3. December-March: Upon notification of appointment the Chair shall immediately contact all incumbents to determine whether they wish to run, and for what position. Once notified of their appointment, Committee Members should start their search for all members wishing to be considered for office. This should be done in a timely manner, allowing the Committee members time to investigate for themselves anyone wishing to be considered. All members submitted must confirm willingness to accept nomination. The committee shall attempt to have as much diverse area representation as possible among their slate of nominees.
4. Three months will allow the Committee members time for discussion and investigation. Committee members should make their recommendations to the Chairperson as soon as possible. Once all recommendations are in the Chair will generate a ballot listing the names to be considered for each position and send it to each committee member. Each shall then vote for his/her choice and return to Chairperson.
5. Not later than 25 March: Ballots received and counted by Chairperson.
6. Not later than 31 March: Ballots and one hard copy of the results forwarded to the Recording Secretary for verification. Recording Secretary forwards the completed slate to the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator for publication. (Apr03)
EditF-ANNUAL ELECTION
SR-F-1. Any petition for a proposed motion must be signed by 10% of the current AMCA membership and must be received by the Recording Secretary no later than 1 Aug. No more than 50% of the petition signatures may come from a single AMCA area. The Board shall appoint a committee to evaluate the proposal for constitutionality and financial impact. No motion shall be put to the membership that is in direct conflict with or may otherwise affect the Standard, Constitution and by-laws, or Code of Ethics. If not disallowed for these reasons, the motion shall be placed on the annual ballot. A motion garnering a simple majority of the votes cast shall be considered accepted. (AM78/ Jul78)(Nov79)
SR-F-2. When a vote is to be taken via Newsletter on a subject that applies to at-large members, a ballot shall be airmailed to all at-large members, to enable them to return their votes prior to the deadline. Election ballots shall always be sent in this manner. (Jun 87)
SR-F-3. Any time a motion or by-laws change is presented for membership vote both pro and con reasoning shall be included with the ballot for member consideration. (Mar89)
SR-F-4. All motions passed by a quorum at an Annual AMCA Meeting shall be evaluated by the current AMCA Board to determine constitutional and financial impact. If considerations are significant, the motion will be sent to the entire membership at the next Annual AMCA Election for revote with pros and cons explained. (Nov00)
SR-F-5. All ballot copy, including petitioners and Judges Polling list, must be transmitted to the Recording Secretary not later than 10 days prior to the actual print date. Any items not previously coordinated through the Board will be circulated for informational purposes, but the Secretary will not delay printing for late responses. The Secretary will transmit a sample ballot to at least 2 other officers for proofing prior to printing. (Jan01)
SR-F-6. AMCA shall offer to publish a concise statement (500 words or less) from each candidate. All statements must be submitted to the Recording Secretary by 1 August. (Nov01)
SR-F-7. In the event of a conflict (that is, in an area not covered by the bylaws) a policy adopted by majority vote on a national ballot shall overrule a decision by majority vote at an Annual Meeting, which in turn shall prevail over a vote by the Board of Directors. (NB01 Feb02)
SR-F-8. The following are the approved procedures for annual AMCA balloting:
(a) In September the Secretary will mail, by first class post, ballots to all members-in-good-standing as of the most ::current roster.
(b) The designated auditor must receive all valid ballots not later than 14 days prior to the Annual Meeting. Auditor ::will relay results to the President or his/her designated representative only. Results are to be received at the ::Annual Meeting site not later than the day before the membership session.
(c) In the event of a tie in an annual election, the AMCA Parliamentarian shall toss a coin to determine the winner.
(d) Election results envelope will be opened at a special closed Board session one hour prior to the membership ::session. Results shall be announced only at the Annual Meeting.
(e) The actual number of votes received by each candidate in the Annual Election shall be published in the Newsletter ::election report.
(f) The auditor shall not release any ballots or envelopes unless a grievance is filed under the provisions of the ::AMCA by-laws. If the grievance is found to be valid AMCA will pay all costs of a recount or evaluation of election ::documents. If the grievance is found to be invalid, the person(s) filing the grievance will pay all costs.
(g) Ballots shall be retained by the auditor for one year, after which time they may be destroyed. (Apr03)
EditG-NEWSLETTER
SR-G-1. The Newsletter and Articles Coordinator shall determine the Newsletter format, with Board approval. Newsletter format will conform to guidelines for a 2nd Class postal permit.
SR-G-2. All ballots and deadline material shall have their first printing in the Newsletter not later than two issues prior to the month in which the deadline falls (e.g., June issue for an August deadline). (Jan80)
SR-G-3. The Membership Forum shall be open to all subjects of interest to owners and breeders of Malamutes. (Jan80)
SR-G-4. AMCA will not be responsible for advertisers' photos that may be lost in the mail. Advertisers may, at their option, send enough postage to insure returned photos.(Jan80)
SR-G-5. All ads donated by AMCA that include a photo of a Malamute shall also include the names of the owner(s) and breeder(s). (Jan80)
SR-G-6. All Area and Regional Specialty advertisement in the Newsletter shall be limited to not more than four pages total per Specialty, with not more than two pages in any one issue. (Jan80)
SR-G-7. Any member who fails to receive a Newsletter issue through no fault of the member should request replacement in writing from the Corresponding Secretary. AMCA will pay for a one-time 1st-class mailing of a single issue. The member must pay for any additional requests. (Jan80)
SR-G-8. The AMCA membership list will not be sold to anyone seeking to purchase it for commercial reasons. They shall instead be encouraged to advertise in the Newsletter. (Jan80)
SR-G-9. The annual AMCA Directory shall include a list of Alaskan Malamute Breed Clubs granted non-affiliate status by AMCA. The annual fee for this listing, and due date, shall be set by the Board. The Corresponding Secretary shall advertise through his/her Newsletter column that AMCA members who wish to send information about their local club may do so. Non-affiliate Clubs may also advertise on the Newsletter Show Calendar by paying an additional fee of $20. (Feb84/Aug98)
SR-G-10. The actual cost of the Newsletter per member per year shall be printed on the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator’s page. (Jan 85)
SR-G-11. The Corresponding Secretary will send complimentary copies of the Newsletter to the Library of Congress, and copies of the Newsletter and any other publications the Board deems appropriate to the AKC Library. (Jan 87)
SR-G-12. All copy submitted for publication in the Newsletter which is of a controversial nature, or attempts to influence AMCA members or advocates a change in AMCA policy, must be submitted and signed by an AMCA member, and shall be published in the Forum or a paid ad. (Feb 88)
SR-G-13. The Vice President will publish the National Specialty rotation in the Newsletter annually. (Mar 88)
SR-G-14. No AMCA member may identify any dog used in the AKC Alaskan Malamute Standard video for the purposes of paid advertising in the AMCA Newsletter or any other media. (Mar88)
SR-G-15. No price for a Malamute shall be quoted in a Newsletter ad. (Oct 99)
SR-G-16. ALL AMCA rules/requirements with forms, Constitution, by-laws, standing rules, and the awards requirements, will be published annually in the April NL. (AM01)
SR-G-17. Area Reporters shall be selected as follows:
1. Area Reporters shall be chosen or reappointed each year.
2. Members wishing to serve as Area Reporter shall apply in writing to the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator, and ::provide the signatures of
15 other Area members who support the applicant.
3. The Newsletter and Articles Coordinator will provide a list of recommended Area Reporters for Board approval. (Oct01)
SR-G-18. The annual membership renewal forms shall be printed in the Newsletter issues for January-March.

SR-G-19. The Newsletter shall contain one page every quarter advertising PRJs, Stud Books, Brochures, and any other item for sale by the Club. (Apr03)
SR-G-20. AMCA will donate a National Specialty issue front cover to the National Specialty BOB winner (if owned by an AMCA member), and an inside front cover at the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator’s discretion to the recipient of the annual AMCA Junior Handler Award (with dog exhibited) . If a lower cost cover is available, AMCA will donate the lower cost and the NS and Junior winners will be given the option of upgrading the cover to the more expensive option. (Apr03/Oct05)
SR-G-21. Any service organization approved by the AMCA Board may place one Newsletter ad per month (no photo) at a $5 discount. Additional pages or pages with photos will be at the regular rate. AMAL shall be allowed two free pages in the Newsletter per year for reports, including photos, on rescue events. Apr03/ Jun06)
SR-G-22. The Membership Directory advertising fees shall be reduced to the same amount as the Newsletter advertising fees. (Jun06)
SR-G-23. The use of spiral binding for the Membership Directory shall be authorized only when less expensive binding cannot be used due to the number of pages in the directory. (AM06)
SR-G-24. A disclaimer shall be added to all articles submitted to the NL which state that AMCA and/or any of its committees is not responsible for the content of the article. (Aug07)
SR-G-25. That Theme advertising shall be introduced in the NL with a discount rate of 15% off the regular ad fees. (Jan08)
SR-G-26. An order form will be printed in the Newsletter for those who wish to purchase the Illustrated Standard. (July08)
EditH-SPECIALTY SHOWS
SR-H-1. If the accounts of an AMCA Area or Affiliate are not cleared with the AMCA Treasurer concerning moneys owed to AMCA, then that Area or Affiliate may not hold another Specialty show for AMCA until the accounts have been settled to the Treasurer's satisfaction. (May86)
SR-H-2. No AMCA-sponsored specialty committee shall commence operations until both the Vice-President and the Treasurer have approved its budget. No specialty committee shall exceed its budget, once approved, without the joint written consent of the Vice-President and Treasurer. Should the Vice President and Treasurer be unable to agree on the approval of either a specialty budget or request for excess spending, the matter will be resolved by a poll of the entire Board. SR-H-3. No individual or group can hold an AMCA-supported-entry show without Board approval. The Board will not approve requests for an AMCA-supported-entry show in an area of service where there already exists an affiliated and/or AKC licensed club. (Sep88)
SR-H-4. The Vice-President shall provide the National/Regional/Area Specialty Chairperson with the trophies/ awards needed for their particular show without a formal request by the Chairperson. Further, the Vice-President will ensure that the Chairperson includes these trophies in the premium list. (Sep88)
SR-H-5. Any person whose financial indebtedness to the AMCA remains outstanding 30 days after the second written notice shall be denied the privilege of exhibiting or handling at any AMCA sanctioned event for a period of six months or until the debt is settled, whichever is later. This means that no such debtor may enter, exhibit, or handle any dogs, and any dogs solely owned by the debtor may not be entered , exhibited, or handled in any AMCA Independent Specialty sponsored by an AMCA affiliate with the permission and sanction of the AMCA and the AKC. This would include Combined Specialty shows but would not include any Specialty shows being held in-conjunction with an All-Breed show. This would not exclude dogs co-owned by the debtor but entered and exhibited by a co-owner rather than the debtor. (Aug93)
SR-H-6. Once an Area has held a vote to select breed or sweeps judges for that area specialty, the area may not re-ballot unless approved by the AMCA Board. Any petition for a re-ballot must include the signatures of at least 10% of the current members of that area, and must list the reasons for the re-ballot. If the Board finds just cause to re-ballot, the entire membership of the area must be polled, by Newsletter if time permits, or by individual mailing to each member. The Board shall designate the person responsible for conducting the re-ballot. (Jun95)
SR-H-7. AMCA may advance up to $300 to Area Specialty Chairpersons, once the AMCA Vice-President and Treasurer have approved the show budget. All advances must be repaid. (Dec96)
SR-H-8. All trophy donations will be collected prior to publication in any AMCA-sponsored-show premium list, and no unfunded trophies may be offered. (Aug97)
SR-H-9. Non-licensed Affiliate clubs which use AMCA’s AKC license may request/apply to hold the following events: One “Specialty with Sweepstakes Event” per year. An additional specialty event may be requested if the affiliate club desires to hold two Independent Specialty Events on the same day at the same location and adhere to AKC limitations. A rebate equal to $1.00 for the first entry of each dog shall be payable to AMCA for each specialty event. Two additional “Supported Entry with Sweepstakes Events” per year. Any additional shows may be “Supported Entry without Sweepstakes” events. No monetary rebate to AMCA is required for supported entry events. All of the preceding events require AMCA and AKC approval; affiliate clubs should not precede with events plans until they have submitted the required paperwork/information to AMCA’s VP. SR-H-10. An Area or Regional Specialty must draw an entry of at least 35 in order to be permitted to hold a Specialty the following year, except with Board approval. If not permitted to hold a Specialty, the Area/Region may be permitted to hold annual “supported” shows until they can demonstrate two consecutive entries of at least 35. At that point, they can apply for a Specialty. (Dec99/Mar08/Sep08)
SR-H-11. Area Chairpersons shall be selected as follows:
1. Area Chairpersons shall be chosen two years in advance.
2. Members wishing to serve as Area Chairperson shall apply in writing to the AMCA VP, and provide the signatures of ::15 other Area members who support the applicant.
3. If no suitable Chairperson can be found at least two years before the show, that area shall not host an Area ::Specialty that year without special Board approval. (Feb02)
SR-H-12. Judges Polling for all AMCA Area Specialties will be done at least two years in advance of the show date, in conjunction with the National Specialty Judges Poll Round 1, and tallied for each area by the same auditor. The Area Conformation and Sweepstakes Ballots will list the top 15 names from the previous year's National Conformation and Sweepstakes Polls, plus all judges from the National ineligible lists. Write in votes are not permitted for Conformation. Two write-in spaces will be allowed for Sweepstakes.
Each AMCA member may vote for 5 judges (including any write-ins) on each list, 1 vote for each individual, no preference given. This tally will produce an Area List of 10 names each for Conformation and Sweepstakes; the results shall be published in the Newsletter. Area Specialty Chairs will select judges from their Area List, in descending order. The Chair will coordinate with the AMCA VP before contacting any judges or deviating from the above procedure. SR-H-13. The Vice President shall supervise activities of show committees and obtain the required approval for Specialty shows from AKC. (Jan03)
SR-H-14. The specialty Chairperson and members of his/her immediate family shall not enter, exhibit or handle in conformation classes at any specialty approved under the license of AMCA that he/she is chairing. (Jun07)
EditI-NATIONAL SPECIALTY
SR-I-1. Neither Specialty Chairperson nor member of his/her immediate family shall enter, exhibit or handle in the Malamute classes of the show he/she is chairing, with the following exceptions: 1. No specialty Chairperson shall, by virtue of assuming that role, be considered to have forfeited the right to exhibit in the obedience classes at the Specialty he/she is chairing. 2. The children of Specialty Show Chairpersons, or members of that chairperson's immediate family, are allowed to exhibit in the Junior Showmanship competition at that show, providing the Specialty is being held in conjunction with an all-breed show. Immediate family shall be as defined in the AKC Rules and Regulations. (Jan80)
SR-I-2. The contracts for conformation judges at the National and in-conjunction Regional Specialties will specify that the judges agree not to judge any Alaskan Malamute specialty anywhere in the Continental United States or Canada for that calendar year prior to the contracted specialty and also agree not to judge Alaskan Malamutes after 1 April prior to the contracted specialty. No one shall be eligible to judge the National Specialty who has judged an AMCA-sponsored specialty within that Region during the two (2) years prior to the date of the National Specialty. No one shall be eligible to judge National or associated Regional conformation more than once in a 7-year period or sweepstakes more than once in a five-year period. (Sep89/Sep90/June00/NB01Jan02)
SR-I-3. If an Area does not wish to host the National Specialty in its turn, it shall be allowed to pass no later than 24 months prior to their projected show date. The Specialty will then automatically be given to the next Area in the rotation. The Area that has passed will be scheduled to host the following year. An Area may choose to pass only one time. If they choose not to host the following year, they will be placed at the bottom of the rotation. (Jun95)
SR-I-4. A Top-Twenty Event will be held in conjunction with the National Specialty as long as the event continues to be self-supporting. The Board will appoint the Top Twenty Committee, which will submit a budget to the Treasurer for approval prior to advertising for the event itself. SR-I-5. An Area/Regional Specialty will be held in conjunction with and at the same site as the National Specialty (Feb99).
SR-I-6. No other National Specialty event shall be scheduled during the AMCA Annual Meeting. (Feb99)
SR-I-7. The Chairperson for the National Specialty shall be appointed three years before the event and shall not chair another specialty during the intervening time, except with Board approval. (Oct99)
SR-I-8. The AMCA Board of Directors will select the judge for the Generations Class (if any) at the National Specialty. (Oct99)
SR-I-9. After the National Specialty, the Chairperson shall forward all complimentary show photos and a marked catalogue to the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator as quickly as possible. After using these materials for the Newsletter issue the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator will forward them to the AMCA archivist. (Jun00)
SR-I-10. Annual Futurity competitions shall be held at the National Specialty. Maturity competitions may be held at the discretion of the National Specialty Chairperson. (May01)
SR-I-11. The following organizations shall be given one free vendor's space, if desired, and priority placement at the National Specialty Chair's discretion: current National Specialty Committee, AMCA Ways & Means, and AMAL or its successors. Organizations must contact the NS Chair at least 90 days before the show opens. The AMCA Auction will be the only event of its type held during National Week. AMAL, or their successors, shall be allowed to put 10 items each up for bid at the auction if they wish. No others shall participate. No rescue organization other than AMAL shall be permitted to engage in any direct fund raising on the show grounds during National Specialty Week. Local rescue organizations may have information booths only. Any group or individual wishing to engage in any fundraising on the show grounds during National Week must have written permission from the Show Chair. (Oct01/Feb03/Apr03/Sept08)
SR-I-12. The National Specialty catalogue shall include the current Standard of the Breed. (Feb02)
SR-I-13. The Show Chairperson will contact and hire all regular conformation and sweepstakes judges, in descending order from the most popular, until all assignment are filled. The Show Chair will contact all regular judges within 3 weeks after the judges polling results are announced, and will provide each judge with a letter/contract confirming all terms of his/her assignment. If, due to an emergency, a judge is unable to fulfill his/her assignment, the Show Chair will make every effort to contract with the next judge in order on the original polled list. The Show Chair will ensure that all National Week judges, including those for non-regular events, sign an AMCA judging contract. (Feb03/Feb06)
SR-I-14. The National Specialty premium list shall be mailed to all members in accordance with AKC rules, using the most current membership list. Premium lists for Canadian and at-large members shall be mailed first class. (Nov03)
SR-I-15. In order to preserve the integrity of the National Specialty or any other AMCA Specialty, conformation judges may not attend any associated event prior to their judging assignment. Upon application, the Board may approve attendance at select events by majority vote. If approval for attendance is granted judges must remain separate from other attendees, and not communicate with anyone whose dogs may later be judged. (Dec03)
SR-I-16. Awards of Merit shall be presented at National Specialties and the associated Regional Specialties to those dogs or bitches not winning Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex but of such outstanding quality as to deserve honorable mention. Recipients of such awards are to be selected by the judge during the Best of Breed judging and to be announced immediately following the awarding of Best of Breed, Best of Winners, and Best of Opposite Sex. The total number of such awards shall be limited to no more than 25% of the total entry of specials or to 10 entries, whichever is less. (Apr04)
SR-I-17. National/Regional Specialty host hotel contracts shall include the provision that reservations within the AMCA block for each year’s NS may not be made prior to December 1st of the previous year. Any NS/RS communication (NL announcements, booklet handouts, web communication, etc) will properly notify the membership of the room reservation date requirements. The NS chair and AMCA VP will prepare a Newsletter announcement of pertinent details (dates, judges, hotel information, etc) of the following year’s NS/RS events, to be published NO LATER than the October NL unless there are events out of the control of AMCA that require this date to be missed. SR-I-18. Judges Polling for the AMCA National Specialty will be done each year, and the results shall be announced at the Annual Meeting and published in the Newsletter. The poll will use a two-ballot system for both Breed and Sweeps Judges. The FIRST ROUND of balloting will be held via the AMCA Newsletter. This ballot will list all eligible judges for both Breed (as of the January AKC Judges Directory for the current year) and Sweeps (as of the March 31 renewal deadline.) Each AMCA member may vote for 10 judges, 1 vote for each individual, no preference given. Write in votes are not permitted. This tally will be used to produce a list of 15 names for the second round. The SECOND ROUND of balloting will be held with the Annual Election Ballot. In the second round, each AMCA member may vote for 5 individuals, 1 vote for each individual, no preference given. This tally will be used to produce a list of the top 10 judges for both Breed and Sweeps from which the National and Regional Specialty Committees must draw all judges. Balloting will be conducted each year to create the list for the National and Regional Specialties to be held 3 years from date of balloting, and for the National and Regional Sweepstakes held 1 year from the date of balloting. SR-I-19. AMCA shall employ a single conformation judge at the National Specialty and a single conformation judge for the in-conjunction Regional/Area Specialty, effective in 2007. The judge who ballots the highest number shall first be offered the National Specialty assignment. If not available for the date, he/she shall be offered the Regional assignment. The judge who ballots the next highest number shall then be offered the remaining assignment. (NB04/ Jan05)
SR-I-20. AMCA members worldwide who are qualified to judge Alaskan Malamutes shall be added to all AMCA Specialty Judges Selection ballots. Such qualified judges must inform the VP of their willingness to be placed on the ballots. (AM04/ Jan 05)
SR-I-21. No judging shall be allowed before 8:30am whenever possible during the National/Regional week. Performance events may precede any conformation events scheduled for a starting time prior to 8:30am (AM04 Jan 05/AM07/Jan08)
SR-I-22. A non-member professional will be hired to oversee the Annual Meeting. The current President will be responsible for hiring the parliamentarian each year with Board approval. The parliamentarian will be available for consultation services during the year. (Jun05/Feb07)
SR-I-23. AMCA members worldwide who are approved by one of AKC’s Special Registry Services may request that their name be placed on the National/Regional Conformation Judges 1st Round Ballot. The request must be submitted to the AMCA Vice President in writing together with confirmation of approval to judge Alaskan Malamutes from this foreign Registry Service. All requests must be postmarked no later than November 1st for inclusion in the upcoming First Round balloting cycle. (Aug05)
SR-I-24. All National Specialty and associated Regional Specialty Show Chairpersons shall be bonded. (Jan06)
SR-I-25. The individual ranked #1 in the National Sweepstakes balloting process shall be allowed to choose his or her choice of assignment between the National or associated Regional. The remaining assignment will be offered to the #2 ranked individual. If either assignment is declined, the positions will be filled in rank order. (Feb 06)
SR-I-26. The Show Chairperson of each National Specialty shall select the videographer and photographer, subject to Board approval. (Apr06)
SR-I-27. The net profit from the sale of items with the National Specialty logo shall be credited to National Specialty revenues, including all pre-orders and sales made during the National Specialty week as well as orders placed during that week. A written record of the gross sales in the form of receipts shall be given to the Show Chairperson, along with a record of itemized costs of the items sold. The net profit shall be used in the final financial report for the National Specialty. (May06)
SR-I-28. Obedience and rally shall not conflict with conformation classes. (AM06)
SR-I-29. A National Specialty show site development manual shall be created that includes all the minimum expectations for a show site, including an audit list to be approved by the Board for each show chairman. (AM06)
SR-I-30. A committee shall be formed to assist in the location of show sites for National Specialties. The committee shall consist of the following: the current Show Chair and Assistant Show Chair (if there is one); the current AMCA Vice President and Treasurer; and, an AMCA member in good standing to be appointed by the Board. SR-I-31. That the AMCA Board of Directors shall have final approval of the Schedule of Events and classes to be offered for the National and associated Regional Specialty. The Show Chair shall submit a tentative schedule to the Vice President on or before July 1 of the year prior to the show. The board will return the tentative schedule with changes by August 15 so the Tentative Schedule can be prepared for distribution at the National Specialty that year. A Final Schedule will be completed no later than February 1 of the show year so that the Vice President will have it for the AKC application filing. (May08)
SR-I-32. The Sweepstakes Judges judging the Regional Specialty may then show their dogs during the National Specialty. The Sweepstakes Judges for the National Specialty may not exhibit their dogs during the Regional or National Specialty, nor can they have contact with exhibitors or judges prior to their assignment. In addition, they may not attend or take part in any event where exhibitors they may judge or judges may be in attendance with the exception of the Annual Meeting. If attending the annual meeting, the judge will have no direct communication with members who will be exhibiting during the National Specialty. No member of their immediate household may exhibit during the National Specialty, and no dog owned or co-owned by them may be shown during the National Specialty. However, members of their household may exhibit at the Regional Specialty and dogs owned or co-owned by them may be exhibited as well. (Mar09)
SR-I-33. A venue suitable for hosting a National Specialty shall
be located by the Show Chair and approved by the Site Selection

EditJ-AMCA AWARDS
SR-J-1. The AMCA shall offer annual certificates to top-winning Alaskan Malamutes, based on the AMCA system of Malamutes-defeated only, to be determined by the Awards Committee. (Jan80/Jun06)
SR-J-2. AMCA shall award a certificate to all obedience and conformation Register Of Merit (ROM) Alaskan Malamutes. Certificates shall be given to the breeder(s) and to the current owner(s) of the Malamute - providing they are AMCA members. (Jan80)
SR-J-3. To be eligible for a Conformation ROM Certificate, a dog must sire at least 8 AKC Champions of Record and a dam must whelp at least 5 AKC Champions of Record. Requirements for Obedience ROM are, a dog must sire at least 5 AKC Obedience-titled get, and a dam must whelp at least 4 Obedience-titled get. (Jan80)
SR-J-4. AMCA shall award certificates for Working Dog ROM, criteria to be established and monitored by the Working Dog Committee, and recipients to be published in the Newsletter. (Jan80)
SR-J-5. AMCA shall establish a permanent memorial to Mrs. Eva Seeley, in the form of a trophy to be presented to the National Specialty Best of Breed winner. The Vice-President will ensure that the Seeley Trophy is shipped to the show site. (Mar86/Dec96/Jul05)
SR-J-6. The AMCA shall offer an award for the Top Jr. Showman handling a Malamute in each calendar year. The Jr. Showman must be a member of AMCA. Each Jr. Showman shall be awarded 1 point per handler defeated at AKC Jr. Showmanship competition as listed in the AKC Awards with the Winners of "Best Jr. Showman" being awarded one (1) additional point. SR-J-7. Awards for Top Puppies shall be calculated on the following basis:
1. Each puppy placed first in its puppy class shall be awarded 1 point for each puppy defeated in that class, up to a ::maximum of 3, in accordance with the results as published in the AKC Awards. This shall apply to both combined and ::divided puppy classes.
2. For competition beyond the puppy class, one additional point for each Malamute defeated. Placements for Reserve ::Winner through Best of Breed shall be included in this calculation.
3. Each puppy shall be included, regardless of its class, in the separate system for Top Class / Area Dog. This ::system will calculate points for awards of Winners through Best of Breed only. (Jan90/Feb08)
SR-J-8. The Statistics Committees will calculate all dogs’ standings based on Area of the primary owner at the time of the wins, unless the award statistician is informed in writing that the dog resides with a co-owner in a separate area. When such notification is received all awards calculations will be based on the area of residence. (Mar97/May01)
SR-J-9. Upon proof of competition in the Jr. Showmanship competition at the Westminster Kennel Club, AMCA shall pay any AMCA Junior $500 to offset the expenses of competing at that show. To qualify, the Jr. Showman must:
1. Be an AMCA member;
2. Furnish the AMCA VP with proof of their attendance and competition at Westminster.
3. Handle an Alaskan Malamute at Westminster. (AM99/Mar00)
SR-J-10. AMCA shall each year accept nominations for the Outstanding Service Award which shall recognize an outstanding deed or exceptional service to the breed by an individual member or members jointly. Nominations may only be made by AMCA members and must be received by the designated committee by 1 August. Voting shall be conducted as part of the Annual Ballot. (Dec01)(Oct06)
SR-J-11. All breed statistics and all awards regarding show wins and producing records shall be based on the calendar year. To be eligible for all AMCA sponsored annual award, trophy, certificate, etc.; recipient must be the owner of an AKC registered Alaskan Malamute and an AMCA member-in-good-standing. A list of all AMCA awards, and their requirements, shall be published in the Newsletter annually. (Apr03/Dec07/Feb08)
SR-J-12. Committees that determine award winners shall also prepare the award certificates. The names and awards will be published in the Newsletter as soon as the Committee has made its decision and certificates shall be mailed the following month. Certificates will be mailed to the owner listed first in the AKC Awards publication unless the Chair of the committee is notified in writing that another of the owners is to receive the certificate. SR-J-13. Any award, certificate, etc., received from AMCA, AKC, or other organization shall be forwarded to the person who maintains the AMCA database for inclusion in the database. (Jul05)
EditK-CHD AND OTHER GENETIC PROBLEMS
SR-K-1. The Board authorizes the Chondrodysplasia Certification Committee (CCC) and the Newsletter and Articles Coordinator to publish the names of all dogs who's Certificates has been revoked. (Jan80)
SR-K-2. No test-bred certificates shall be issued unless the following conditions are met and verification has been sent to the CCC Secretary:
1. Appropriate CCC sub-contract signed and on file.
2. All test litter puppies are euthanized, donated to a participating university, placed for future breeding ::purposes, or sterilized and sold. (Jan80)
SR-K-3. The fee for use of a dwarf bitch shall be reasonable and agreed upon by both keeper and test breeder per AMCA contract so as to provide for care of the bitch and all expenses related to 'test' breeding.

SR-K-4. The CCC test-breeding contract shall allow the CCC to notify the tested dog's breeder of the results of the test breeding, if the name and address of the breeder are known. Further, if the owner of the sire of the test-bred Malamute can be contacted, they shall be so notified also. (Jan80)
SR-K-5. AMCA shall accept the use of frozen semen in test breeding, under the same provisions currently required by AKC. (June85)
SR-K-6. Any interim or permanent program concerning CHD that deviates from the current program shall be voted on and approved by the membership before its implementation. (Sep87)

SR-K-8. Certificates shall be issued only to:
1. Those dogs meeting AMCA test breeding requirements, or;
2. Those dogs with at least one certified ancestor between the applicant dog and each uncertified ancestor, or,

The committee shall set the purchase cost of the book. The PRJ Chairperson shall be allowed to pre-sell the PRJ as soon as 150 entries are obtained, and to go press immediately thereafter.
