What is Epilepsy?
Epilepsy is a general term for neurological conditions that cause seizures.
Epilepsy is among the most common neurological disorders in dogs. Any breed of dog and mixed breeds can be affected by epilepsy. Epilepsy can be heritable and some breeds are believed to be predisposed to the condition.

More information on seizures in dogs is available from the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

In 2014, The AKC Canine Health Foundation launched an Epilepsy Research Initiative, to help address the unmet need of epilepsy research that has been articulated by dog clubs, owners and veterinarians. The Alaskan Malamute Club of America is an Epilepsy Research Initiative Sponsor.
