The AKC Canine Health Foundation

The AKC Canine Health Foundation (CHF) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 by the American Kennel Club to advance the health and well-being of all dogs. Their mission is to improve the health of all dogs through scientific research, education, and the One Health model (connecting human and animal medicine). CHF has invested more than $60 million into over 1,000 research and educational grants since its inception, through grant awards across 23 program areas—including oncology, cardiology, neurology, immunology, behavior, and tick-borne diseases—as well as clinician-scientist fellowships. Grants are determined through a scientific review process and committee consisting of veterinarians, physicians, scientists, and canine health experts, all working together to uphold the highest scientific standards.

AMCA works in conjunction and consultation with CHF to identify high priority research which directly relates to the health and well-being of the Alaskan Malamute. AMCA is a proud sponsor of CHF initiatives on epilepsy, canine cancer, tick-borne disease, and breed-specific projects on chondrodysplasia and alopecia. AMCA has a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) at the AKC Canine Health Foundation which is used to support these projects.
